Baldwin school board says Loxley woman has issued violent threats
January 29th, 2009 — Loxley, Schools
Baldwin County school board officials claim a Loxley woman who refers to herself as a “prophetess” and “militant for God” has threatened them with violence.
Glynis Bethel, who is a defendant in a lawsuit with the Baldwin County Board of Education, said she applied for a pistol permit, has a baseball bat and bought a BB gun to protect herself from corrupt government officials trying to suppress her freedom of speech and detain her daughter for truancy.
Bethel sent copies of a concealed-weapon permit application to the principal of Central Baldwin Middle School and to Baldwin County Superintendent Faron Hollinger. Bethel said she sent the application to school officials to make them aware that she intends to use force to protect her property from trespassers. She said Christians are not allowed to murder, but added she would be willing to shoot someone in the foot.

Truck-SUV collision means delays on I-10 westbound
January 19th, 2009 — Loxley
Westbound traffic on Interstate 10 was tied up for about eight hours Sunday after a wreck at the Ala. 59 interchange on Interstate 10 overturned an 18-wheeler’s trailer across both lanes and flung the trailer’s cargo — tons of aluminum sheeting — into the median, Alabama State Troopers said.
At about 10 a.m., a 1992 Ford Explorer merging into I-10 westbound lanes collided with a Freightliner tractor that was pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with aluminum, Piggott said.
The wreck also spilled oil and diesel fuel onto the roadway, Piggott said.
The driver of the truck was taken to Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, where he was treated and released, hospital officials said. The other driver was not injured
Man Charged with Murder in I-10 Wreck
January 18th, 2009 — Loxley, Orange Beach
An Orange Beach man is charged with murder after an early morning crash that killed a woman on Interstate 10.
Alabama State Troopers say Jonathan W. Cook was driving a 2002 Toyota 4-Runner on the interstate around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, when he struck a 1996 Ford Explorer, from behind, between the Malbis and Loxley exits.
The Explorer left the road and overturned several times, ejecting a passenger, Yvonne Carlo Arnold, 47, of Louisiana. Investigators say Arnold was killed. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
Troopers believe alcohol and speed may have contributed to the crash. Cook was arrested Saturday and booked into the Baldwin County Jail on DUI and murder charges.
Fighting vandalism
January 18th, 2009 — Loxley
Last month, Peter Turner bought a 1999 Honda Accord for his stepson. It ran well, but needed some work, which could be fixed when Turner’s sons came from Australia to visit and work on the car and do some other projects Turner had in mind.
According to Turner, “The car was only here three days when they trashed it.”
Whoever vandalized the little car did a thorough job. The windows were smashed, tires slashed, upholstery was gouged out, and the engine, Turner says, was ruined. Turner says the car was worth about $1,500.
First Drug Bust of 2009
January 12th, 2009 — Crime, Loxley
Loxley Police say they’ve made their first drug bust of 2009 on the Interstate 10 corridor.
Westley Jones and Jeremiah Odom were arrested Saturday night near the Loxley exit of I-10.
Police say they found 10 pounds of marijuana in the car when they pulled the two over. Investigators say they were taking the drugs from Texas to Cocoa Beach, Fla. Both are charged with trafficking marijuana.
How does the LPD always seem to find these people on I-10? Either they’re just that good or lucky. Or maybe there’s so much drug running that almost any car on I-10 they stop will have drugs in it.
