Love in the Library: 5-time Champion Bay Minette Beater Apprehanded

SnowdenOn Friday, April 3, 2015, University of South Alabama police arrested Bay Minette resident Kalvin Andreas Snowden, 39, on charges of indecent exposure and attempting to elude police.

He was spotted masturbating inside Marx Library, school officials said.

Apparently the following activities are also frowned on the library:

  • One man arm wrestling competitions
  • Hand puppet auditions
  • Safest sex
  • Fisting the mister
  • Jerkin’ the gherkin

Friends claimed that Snowden didn’t do anything and was just trying to “read a m-f-ing book.” (NSFW)

At meetings around Mobile and Baldwin counties, members of the Homeowners Hurricane Insurance Initiative have been discussing grassroots efforts to support Senate Bill 2. The proposal, also known as the Property Insurance Clarity Bill, is sponsored by Sen. Ben Brooks, R-Mobile.

Split sentences given in obscenity, solicitation case

A man who in November pleaded guilty to transmitting obscene material to a child and electronic solicitation of a child received split sentences for the crimes.

Bruce Anthony Newburn, 21, of Calvert, appeared in Circuit Court in Bay Minette on Jan. 12 and received a 10-sentence for sending obscene material to a child.

Last March, Newburn sent inappropriate pictures to an unrelated 13-year-old girl, according to David Matheny with the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office.

Cause they unwrappin’ err’thing out here.

You can run and tell that, homeboy!

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a federally protected, development-stopping, endangered beach mouse.

The protest signs were staked by the schools with care,
In hopes that the street preacher soon would be there

Baldwin school officials plan ’emergency summit’ on budget shortfall

Spending cuts, including 205 layoffs last week, are not enough to balance the Baldwin County education budget, so school officials have scheduled a meeting Thursday afternoon with state and federal representatives to ask for help.

The school board is looking for $4.5 million in either cuts or new funding. Board members plan to confer with state Revenue Commissioner Tim Russell and U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Mobile, in an “emergency school finance summit” at Daphne High.

County commissioners and Baldwin lawmakers have also been invited, as have Randy McKinney, state school board representative, and Joe Morton, director of the Alabama Department of Education, according to school system reports

Baldwin authorities identify woman struck by car during domestic dispute

The woman struck and killed by a vehicle on Stagecoach Road on Tuesday night has been identified as Lisa Taylor, a Spanish Fort resident in her late 20s or early 30s, according to Capt. Steven Arthur with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said that Taylor, her 53-year-old boyfriend Alfred Banks and her son were heading back to their residence off Stagecoach Road after a party Tuesday night, when the couple became engaged in a dispute, and Taylor tried to exit the moving vehicle.

Taylor’s 11-year-old son told investigators that he believes his mother was struck by the vehicle Banks was driving, a statement that Capt. Steven Arthur said is “still under investigation.” Arthur said that although Banks called the boy “his son” during the investigation Tuesday night, authorities do not believe Banks is the boy’s biological father

Wolf Bay Lodge rebuilding plans on hold in Miflin community of Elberta

While business is booming at the Wolf Bay Lodge’s new location in Orange Beach, plans to rebuild the restaurant at the original site in Elberta have been put on hold, co-owner Charlene Haber said.

The Wolf Bay Lodge burned in its original location, in the Miflin community in Elberta, in December. The restaurant reopened at Zeke’s Landing Marina in March in what owners said was a temporary move until the lodge could be rebuilt on Wolf Bay. Haber said, however, that possible changes in building designs and demands at the new site have put construction plans on hold.

The loss of the Wolf Bay Lodge building in Miflin hit Elberta sales tax income, said Mayor Marvin Williams.
