Red flags go back up in Orange Beach with 15 water rescues; Gulf Shores remains at yellow with no incidents | AL.com

After flying for about six hours, yellow flags were replaced by red ones in Orange Beach Wednesday afternoon after rip currents forced more than a dozen water rescues.

“We started off the day with yellow flags because the National Weather Service had issued a moderate rip current forecast, but at 2 o’clock, roughly, we went back to red,” said Melvin Shepard, Orange Beach Fire-Rescue’s beach safety director. “The lifeguards at Cotton Bayou Tower 2 had 13 rescues today due to rip currents.”
