Rough surf leads to over 20 rescues on Alabama Gulf Coast | AL.com

Although 500 miles away in the Gulf, a massive thunderstorm system that became Tropical Storm Bill kept Alabama lifeguards and first-responders scrambling for days with more than 20 water rescues.

Even Tuesday, when Bill made landfall about noon near Corpus Christi, Texas, its wind-driven waves were still pounding beaches all along the north Gulf of Mexico.

Late last week, as the 2015 hurricane season’s second named storm flared up, red flags began flying in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach signaling high swimming hazards. The National Weather Service, meanwhile, warned of rip current risks.
