Couple Weds on Historic Middle Bay Light | WKRG

A couple from Fairhope has done something that has only happened two other times in the last 130 years. They got married (legally) at Middle Bay Light. Chad and Tonia Smith tied the knot on May 30th. They had to get permission from the Alabama Lighthouse Association to legally get married there. Tonia says she wore shorts to climb the rickety steps of the lighthouse, then changed into her wedding gown once she was inside. On their wedding day, the bay waters were calm for their eight mile boat ride to the lighthouse, which was a relief. Chad Smith says, “I told her I always wanted to get married there, and she thought I was a little crazy and blew it off.” Tania adds, “It turned out beautiful. I wouldn’t change a thing. It was so perfect.”
