ADEM posts swim advisory for beach in Fairhope – FOX10 News | WALA

The city of Fairhope and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) are testing water samples from a stretch of beach on Mobile Bay on Monday, June 08, 2015. There is now a swim advisory posted at the Orange Street Pier. An ADEM representative said it’s just precautionary while water samples are tested.

Concern was raised and then spread after Fairhope resident, Elliott Gordon posted video to Facebook of what he said looked like human waste along the shoreline. As of Sunday, June 7, 2015 that video had been viewed almost 34,000 times and shared nearly 900 times. Fairhope city officials also saw the video and decided to take precautionary measures as well.

“We have taken samples of this and we have sent it off to the lab and it may be a week or two before we get those results back,” said Fairhope City Councilman, Jack Burrell.
