The approximately $2 million park on 3.5 acres features a splash pad, exercise areas, horseshoe pits, playground equipment and a large pavilion.

The park’s opening came on the same day Costco opened its store at the 650,000-square-foot McGowin Park shopping development off Interstate 65 near Hank Aaron Stadium.

It also comes as retail activity in the Eastern Shore increases as Daphne’s Jubilee Square, located across I-10 along U.S. 98, has experienced a post-recession resurgence.
