Vestavia Hills cyclist dies after car crash in Gulf State Park, wife remains hospitalized | AL.com

A Vestavia Hills man, struck by a car with his wife while they rode bicycles in Gulf State Park Wednesday, has died of his injuries. On Thursday morning, his wife remained in intensive care, Florida hospital officials said.

John Richard Vos, 73, died after a Baptist LifeFlight crew transported him to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. His wife, Augusta Forbes Vos, 50, suffered serious injuries in the crash. She underwent surgery at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola and is expected to recover, said Cpl. Josh Coleman of the Gulf Shores Police Department.

Around 9 a.m. Wednesday, police found the Voses unconscious on the southbound side of Baldwin County Road 2, about 1 mile north of East Beach Boulevard.
