New high-tech signals on highway 59 to greet Hangout Fest, summer traffic in Gulf Shores | AL.com

Just in time for over 30,000 Hangout festivalgoers to hit the beach in Gulf Shores, the city’s new high-tech traffic signals are online along Alabama 59.

The adaptive signalization system has car-detecting radar installed at all intersections on the state highway from Baldwin County 8 to the Beach Boulevard, covering over five miles. Each signal is linked to a mainframe computer with fiber optic lines and the new interconnected system takes away the need for manually set timing plans.
