Power outage hits Daphne and Spanish Fort   | AL.com

A power outage hit the east side of Daphne and Spanish Fort about 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The outage lasted for about 20 minutes and affected most public schools in both cities.

Riviera Utilities spokesman Miles McDaniel said pole replacement work on U.S. 90 caused the outage, affecting 5,986 customers from 8:08 a.m. to 8:27 a.m.

“We’re installing some new poles on highway 90 and basically what happened is we had to do some switching in the Malbis substations to de-energize that line,” McDaniel said. “So in that time that we did the switching, we lost power for about 19 minutes.”
