Over 45,000 in Baldwin County lost power during weekend storm; fallen trees wreak havoc | AL.com

After Saturday afternoon’s strong storm cell wreaked havoc on the Dauphin Island Regatta, it hit Baldwin County with a mighty punch, snapping numerous trees and power lines.

All in all, Baldwin EMC reported that 33,866 members lost power, mostly south of Interstate 10, according to communications specialist Michelle Geans. Riviera Utilities spokesman Miles McDaniel said 142 outages affect just over 8,600 customers.

In Robertsdale, Mayor Charles Murphy said the storm knocked power out to about 70 percent of the municipality’s electric customer or about 2,500 homes. And in Fairhope, Electric Superintendent Scott Sligh said six power outages affected 276 people and power to about 780 people was cut off for 7 minutes so a tree could be safely removed from lines.
