Parents concerned over school flooding

Recent rains brought more problems at Bay Minette Elementary School. As some parents hold their children out until more environmental testing is done at the school, last week’s rains raised more concerns. Flooded sidewalks caused some classrooms to have their doors barricaded with sandbags.

Bay Minette Elementary School was built more than 90 years ago. With a structure that old, upkeep is a constant issue. The Baldwin County Board of Education said it does regular testing for mold and asbestos levels to ensure the children stay safe. With last week’s heavy rains, another problem rose to the surface…water. It’s something that parents there say their children deal with every time there are heavy rains. Water floods the sidewalks and threatens to go into the classrooms.
