The two top teachers in Baldwin County are among the final 16 in consideration for Alabama Teacher of the Year. And, according to their bosses, part of what makes them valuable at their respective schools is their ability to be called on when particular students are struggling and get them back on track.
Both are known for being in the stands, or on the sidelines, when students are competing in various sports, being just as passionate about them after the bell rings as they are in and around the classroom.
The Baldwin County Teachers of the Year are Renee Phelps, in the elementary school category, and Marilyn Ward, who was tops in secondary schools. Phelps teaches 5th grade at Summerdale Elementary School and Ward teaches 8th graders at Foley Middle School.
