Plans in works for community education forum in Fairhope

Like many cities in Baldwin County, Fairhope is looking inward after the school system’s resounding tax defeat on March 31.

After an exhaustive campaign, the Baldwin County Board of Education failed in its quest to increase property taxes by 8 mills to help pay for a 10-year, $350 million school expansion initiative, and two of three tax renewals were shot down.

While the school board and county commissioners plan a joint meeting for April 30 to receive public input, Fairhope’s Education Advisory Committee is organizing its own community education forum, tentatively set for May 12.
