Foley Sports Tourism Complex buzz making impact beyond facility; GlenLakes to host college golf championship

Well before Foley opens its 16-field sports complex in early 2016, the city will have already hosted numerous events, ranging from lacrosse and soccer tournaments to professional lawnmower racing and cornhole competitions.

After being hired in March of 2014 as Foley first-ever executive director of sports, Don Staley said the most common question he would hear at athletic conventions was “Where’s Foley?”

He said his first year was about “branding a new destination,” anchored by the city’s planned $27 million Sports Tourism Complex, featuring 15 state-of-the-art athletic fields, a 1,000-seat championship field and a 104,000-square-foot events center.
