Gulf Shores developments: condo, duplexes on rise; Beach Express median plaza, subdivisions in works

Riding a population surge and waves of record-breaking tourism growth, developers and investors are locking in on Baldwin County’s coast.

So far this year, projects that moved through the Gulf Shores Planning Commission include:

  • Wahoo Plaza, a unique 6-lot commercial plaza on the Foley Beach Express median at Baldwin County 8.

  • Southwinds Subdivision, a 76-lot single-family residential development near the heart of downtown.

  • 53-lot expansion of Craft Farms North.

  • Waterside Resort on Little Lagoon, a 46-unit, single-family subdivision on West Fort Morgan Road. The planned unit development was approved by the council in November.

  • Cottages at Lagoon Pass, a 16 two-story, single-family development on West Beach.

  • Beach Life Condominium, a 4-duplex, 8-unit development in the 300 block of East 1st Avenue.

  • National Bank of Commerce building at the corner of West 2nd Street and West Commerce Avenue.

  • Midtown Gulf Shores, a 7-lot, mixed-use commercial planned unit development at West Commerce Avenue and West 2nd Street. The project will need City Council approval.

No one moving into these new locations has children so the effects on crowded portable learning trailers is expected to be minimal.
