Gulf Shores woman left toddlers home alone so she could find cigarettes

A woman who left her 1-year-old and 2-year-old children home alone so she could find cigarettes this weekend faces a child endangerment charge.

Audrey M. Godwin, 20, of Gulf Shores told the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office that she left her children in her apartment Sunday while she “went out in search of a person to go buy her a pack of cigarettes,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

A neighbor had spotted the 2-year-old wandering in the street, nearly struck by a car, outside Morgan Trace Apartments on Fort Morgan Road, authorities said. The neighbor took the child inside and spotted the 1-year-old in the apartment alone, the release stated.
