Fairhope Mayor Tim Kant lashes back against boom ‘conspiracy’ theorists

Mayor Tim Kant said he’s had enough.

With a bevy of documents and a detailed timeline, Kant gave a presentation Monday about the controversy surrounding the city’s decision to award a $639,000 contract to a company owned by state Sen. Trip Pittman, R-Montrose, to deploy boom along the Eastern Shore during the BP PLC oil spill.

“These conspiracy people need to get a life,” Kant told the City Council and the 80 or so people who attended the council meeting. City Attorney Marion “Tut” Wynne said during Kant’s presentation that they city had gone “above and beyond its duties” in awarding the boom contract.
