Gulf Shores beach parking fees to resume in March

Starting in March, parking at the beaches in Gulf Shores will no longer be free, officials announced last week.Officials had estimated that by using the solar-powered machines, instead of contracted officers and parking attendants, taxpayers would see about $820,000 in revenue over five years.

Before the meters were used, the city collected between $261,000 and $276,000 annually, according to city records.

The rates range from $1 an hour to $5 a day, but residents can avoid the fee by displaying hurricane re-entry decals on their vehicles.
