Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon is swinging for the fences.
“Our goal is to be the youth sports capital of the Southeast, and we’re going to do everything we can do to make that happen,” Kennon said. “It’s a tremendous economic engine.”
Despite last year’s record-setting oil spill, the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission broke revenue records, bringing in $5.2 million more than in 2009. Officials attributed the boost to 17 new sporting events in the area in 2010.
