Fairhope artist aids Gautier in public art quest

When many people think of Gautier, Miss., they still think of the devastation Hurricane Katrina brought there in 2005, said Samantha Abell, Gautier’s planning and economic development director.

But, with the help of $5.9 million in federal funds that came after Katrina, the century-old Mississippi community’s leaders would like Gautier’s future to look a little bit like the famously quaint Alabama town of Fairhope, known for its flower-lined streets and abundant public art.
