Calls to program counseling oil spill victims on the rise

More than nine months after the Deepwater Horizon explosion, calls for help from people hurt by the spill are on the rise, Paige Rucker, Project Rebound coordinator, said.

“We had 408 calls in December,” Rucker said of the agency that provides counseling and helps connect individuals and businesses to other service and assistance programs.

“We had an average of about 13 calls a day until Dec. 22 and we picked up doing 30 to 40 calls a day. In one day, we’ve had 53 calls.”
