Parking signs removed

At the recommendation of the city’s newly appointed police chief, Mayor Tim Kant last week ordered city workers to remove the dozens of two-hour parking signs posted along the street sides in the city’s core.

The signs were removed Wednesday — meaning that, for the first time since 1993, according to previous Press-Register stories, there were no time limits on parking anywhere downtown.

“It’s all public, restriction-free parking, now,” said Chief Bill Press, who became the city’s top cop July 1. “If there are problems in the future, I’ll get with the mayor and council again to rethink policy
