Residents fed up with noise, and the owners of the local bars and restaurants whose live bands and loud patrons those residents have complained about in recent months, spoke Tuesday to city officials about the municipal noise ordinance and how and whether it should be enforced.
“The owner of one of the businesses I’ve complained about suggested recently that, if we want quiet, we should move to Summerdale,” Mark Polon, a resident of Equality Avenue in downtown Fairhope, said during Tuesday’s public hearing at City Hall.
The complaints center on a few local restaurants and bars that have outdoor areas where patrons talk and musicians perform:
- My Place and McSharry’s Irish Pub, bars across Bancroft Street from one another downtown.
- The Gumbo Shack on Fairhope Avenue in downtown.
- Fly Creek Café, located in a marina off Section Street about a mile north of downtown.
