Elberta hires new police chief

The federal agent in charge of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Mobile will become Elberta’s police chief, Mayor Marvin Williams said Wednesday. The Town Council voted Tuesday night to name Mickey Pledger to direct the Elberta Police Department.

Pledger will take office Aug. 3, after retiring July 31 as resident agent in charge of the Mobile immigration office. He will replace Joey Brown, an Orange Beach officer who was hired as a part-time, temporary chief after Gary Peaden resigned in May.
