Nature preserve roadway planned

With federal funds expected soon, city officials hope to start construction on a road that will allow the Graham Creek Nature Preserve to open later this year.

The Foley City Council voted this week to start work on the half-mile gravel road and two parking lots that will allow visitors to use the canoe launch and trails at the 484-acre facility off Baldwin County 20. The first phase of the road is expected to cost about $90,000, said Leslie Lassiter, city environmental director.

“Once we get the road in and security gates in, the next thing we may be able to look at is opening the park,” she told council members
