City officials modified the municipal budget in a plan that includes cutting $3 million in expenses this year, but no layoffs.
In a special session last week, the City Council voted to adopt the resolution for the rest of the fiscal year. The main difference between the budget approved unanimously Thursday night and a proposal that failed in March was that no employees will be laid off under the new plan, said Mayor John Koniar.
“We have a resolution this evening that we will adopt the amended budget for 2008-09,” Koniar said before the vote. “This basically is recognizing that revenues will be down about $1.775 million. By the same token, expenses will be down about $3 million. This has no reduction of employees. That’s been removed from it so it’s just basically restating our financial position
