City employees will be getting half the planned cost-of-living adjustment, but with those and other cost-cutting measures, officials believe they can avoid laying off any workers.
The City Council voted Monday to approve a 1.5 percent pay increase for municipal workers. The 2009 city budget included a proposal for a 3 percent raise, said Ann Simpson, chief financial officer.
She said that with city revenue down, Robertsdale cannot afford the full hike, but that half the proposed raise would still help workers
