Mother says her daughter acted in self-defense in killing of brother

The mother of the woman charged with fatally stabbing her brother in the heart last month said Thursday she believes her daughter was defending herself.

“I do. I really do,” said Jane Jiles, the mother of both the victim and the defendant. “But you know, you just don’t do that.”

Maleya Yolanda McMillan, 25, was charged with murder after police said she killed her brother, Mustafa McMillan, 22, at their Fairhope trailer on the morning of Feb. 25.
