Boys and Girls Clubs to pull back in Baldwin

The Boys and Girls Clubs of South Alabama is pulling back in Baldwin County as it addresses an expected deficit of more than $190,000 for its three operations there, officials said.

In April, the Boys and Girls Clubs in Fairhope and Daphne will be turned over to nonprofits formed specifically to continue them as centers for 6- to 18-year-old youths, officials said. The same thing happened in Foley on Dec. 31, when its Boys and Girls Club became the John McClure Snook Youth Club.

“These programs need to survive in Foley, Fairhope and Daphne, but the people of Baldwin County need to recognize that it’s not going to happen without them,” said Mary Zoghby, executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Alabama
