City seeks partner for rec center

Mayor Tim Kant said Friday that the city is in discussions with a local nonprofit about a possible partnership to operate the city’s nearly completed $2.4 million recreation center at Municipal Park, despite the prospect of declining revenues due to the national recession.

Kant said he could not reveal the name of the organization because the deliberations are in the early stages, and very little has been agreed upon. But he said the corporation has vast experience in operating such a fitness facility and would be a natural fit for the 19,355-square-foot recreation center.

The nonprofit would determine its hours of operation and fee structure, Kant said
