Whetstone pleads guilty to DUI charge

Former Baldwin County District Attorney David Whetstone pleaded guilty Monday in Municipal Court to a drunken driving charge, receiving what a prosecutor said is a normal punishment for first offenders.

Whetstone, who served as the county’s top prosecutor for more than 20 years before retiring in 2006, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on

Dec. 19. Buddy Brackin, a Foley attorney appointed to hear Whetstone’s case after the city judge recused himself, ordered Whetstone to serve a one-year probation and pay a $500 fine.

Did he bring a driver with him to the trial because he’d been drinking or because he knew his license would be suspended?

The man’s the former DA… I’m sure he had a fairly good idea what his punishment would be…
