Woman who shot husband: I didn’t want to be burned alive

Pamela Teresa Cowan said the evening of Dec. 22 started out peacefully, with her in the kitchen cooking holiday cakes and her husband, James, relaxing before cooking dinner.

The couple had reunited in recent months, living together again in a home on Baldwin County 62 in the Rosinton community as they tried to heal a troubled marriage, according to Pamela Cowan and court documents.

Cowan, 42, said she had gone back to her husband despite past abuse because he was “making changes for himself,” including getting counseling and reading the Bible.

“He was in a good mood, I was in good mood, but in 10-15 minutes, something changed,” she said Saturday in a telephone interview from her parents’ home in Loxley.
