Former Orange Beach city attorney Sutley cuts deal

Former Orange Beach City Attorney Larry Sutley has cut a deal with state prosecutors that will allow him to serve time for two misdemeanors concurrently with the 27-month federal sentence he received for his role in the bribery of the beach town’s former mayor, Steve Russo, by real estate developers.

Sutley, 60, was scheduled to report to the Federal Prison Camp at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery on Friday, his lawyer David Simon said.

In pleading guilty to two misdemeanor charges of failing to disclose a conflict of interest, state prosecutors have agreed to dismiss more serious felony charges of using a public office for personal gain and bribing a public servant.
