New Bay Minette mayor, council sworn into office

Bay Minette’s new mayor, Jamie Tillery, was sworn into office Monday night and received her first disappointment — her push to have Councilman Chris Norman selected as mayor pro tempore was denied. The mayor pro tem serves in a back-up role, stepping in to run meetings in the mayor’s absence.

In a work session held earlier Monday, Tillery asked council members to consider Norman for the post, calling for change in the midst of a new administration. Norman is returning to the council after facing no opposition in his bid for a second term.

Bradley said Phillips was “familiar with the way things work” and would be an asset to the new mayor. Phillips asked Tillery if he had “done something wrong” to not warrant a return as mayor pro tem. Tillery said it was “nothing personal,” that she simply felt the need for a change and asked the council to follow her lead.
