In early September one year ago, Auburn University shut down a planned 3-mile extension of Baldwin County 13 because it would destroy several acres of wetlands as it passed across university property.
Now, after going back to the drawing board several more times, the road’s construction is expected to begin within a month or so, county officials said last week. Instead of filling those acres of Fly Creek wetlands, a 720-foot bridge will span them almost completely.
