The seven candidates running in this small city’s mayoral race have together reported raising more than $154,000 to fund their campaigns this year about five times the highest amount previously raised in any mayoral election in Fairhope history, according to a search of campaign records.
The amount was staggering to some political observers, who noted that political cash is short in most Alabama cities this year, leaving many incumbents unopposed in Tuesday’s election.
