The sweet sounds of choral music will be replaced with silence at three Baldwin County schools this fall.
Choral programs have been eliminated at Fairhope Middle, Fairhope High and Bay Minette Middle schools, the school system confirmed, as a result of staff reshuffling within the county and budget cuts. All three schools plan to restart their choral programs in the future, perhaps as early as fall 2009, officials said.
“I hate this,” said Vicky Cook, the fine arts and library media supervisor for Baldwin County Public Schools. “It’s tough times.” Losing three choir programs is especially embarrassing for the school system, Cook said, because the county will host district and statewide choral competitions for the second straight year.
