Hours before he ambushed and killed his mother-in-law Sunday, James Morgan Dorriety encountered police officers who had been called to North Baldwin Infirmary here to enforce a restraining order against him, according to Police Chief Michael Rowland and Baldwin County Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack Jr.
But the officers made no arrest after determining that the 35-year-old Dorriety posed no immediate danger, Rowland said.
Later in the afternoon, according to law enforcement officials, Dorriety repeatedly shot Kathy Lee Allison, 53, in the Lottie community in northeast Baldwin County after blocking her truck with his car.
