Annual appraisals in the county began in 2006 after several years of incomplete attempts and, last fall, challenges were filed on about 22,000 properties, ranging from single-family homes to large, jointly owned corporate holdings.
About 15,000 of those cases made it through preliminary meetings to Thompson and fellow members Ray Clark and Connie Tampary, the independent board with authority to change county property valuations.
The board should be finished by the end of this month, Thompson said. Pressed by county officials last week, Thompson estimated the board has granted about a 20 percent reduction in valuations on average this session.
