2-year-old drowns in swimming pool

A child drowned in an above-ground pool Thursday in north Baldwin County when he apparently decided to go swimming by himself, authorities said.

Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Arthur said 2-year-old Trampas Pritchett Jr. wandered out of his family’s home on Maytower Road in the Rabun community north of Bay Minette at about 11 a.m.

The toddler’s mother had told the boy and several friends that she would take them swimming later, he said, but as she worked in another room Trampas went outside and climbed into the pool, Arthur said of the preliminary investigation.
