While campaigning for mayor of Bay Minette in 2000, eventual winner Sonny Dobbins made a list of promises to constituents. At last week’s council meeting, Dobbins made an effort to cross another item off his to-do list — term limits for mayor.
Council members voted unanimously to support a resolution limiting the mayor’s post to two consecutive terms in office. The measure will come up for a second reading at the July 21 council meeting. If it passes, it will become effective for the next term of office.
Term limit for mayor gets first approval
We already have a way to limit a politician’s term. They’re called elections. If you don’t want someone to serve a third term, don’t vote for them.
