Life Guard Scott Smuthers says these record crowds and red flags are exactly the reason Gulf Shores has stepped up their saftey precautions this season.
“As the weather gets warmer there are more and more crowds, especially with the hangout open now. crowds are picking up, ” he says.
And more crowds now have more people watching them. Gulf Shores has doubled the number of lifeguards on the beach and doubled the amount of time they spend on the sand.
