Teacher snakebit between classes

Police and paramedics were called to Foley Elementary School today after a teacher was bitten by a snake around noon.

The reptile turned out to be a non-venomous rat snake, said Terry Wilhite, school system spokesman. The instructor was taken to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center to be checked as a precaution, he said.

“She was walking between buildings and the rat snake was coiled in her path and bit her,” he said. “It certainly unnerved her, but the snake was not poisonous.”
