Several Mobile and Baldwin cities could be changing their borders adding islands and subdivisions and in one case shrinking if Gov. Bob Riley signs a slate of bills that passed the Legislature late Thursday night.
Both the state House and Senate have approved bills allowing for the expansion of city borders in Bay Minette, Citronelle, Foley and Orange Beach. A bill calling for the shrinking of Elberta’s borders also awaits Riley’s signature.
- Bay Minette is awaiting Riley’s signature for two bills that would add a convenience store and a 20-acre parcel owned by the mayor to the city’s limits at U.S. 31 and Baldwin County 57
- Orange Beach would annex Perdido Island, also known locally as Bird Island, an 11-acre, horseshoe-shaped landmass just north of the Perdido Pass bridge.
- Foley would bring in the Lakeview Villas subdivision southwest of the city off Mifflin Road.
- A bill awaiting Riley’s signature would deannex a small portion of the Woerner Preserve from the town of Elberta. Town officials said the land was accidentally included when the preserve was annexed into Elberta.
