Gulf Shores resident Angie Swiger, who has three children in local schools, has announced her candidacy for the Baldwin County Board of Education.
Swiger is running to represent District 5, which includes Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, Ono Island and Fort Morgan. The seat is currently held by Margaret Long, of Orange Beach, who has not yet announced whether she will seek re-election.
Swiger has served on the appointed Gulf Shores school board. She was initially appointed to a one-year term, which expired in May 2007, but remained on board without a formal re-appointment. She said she plans to step down from that spot to concentrate on her campaign.
