Fairhope to consider greater tree protections

Thousands of trees, many currently too young to rank much official attention, would come into the city’s considerable legal protection under new rules proposed by the city’s tree committee.

Also, the fine for harming large old trees — those more than 30 inches in diameter — would be doubled from $10,000 to $20,000 if the City Council approves 12 proposed rule changes set to be requested by the Fairhope Tree Committee on Jan. 28.
