Summerdale adopts ban on smoking

Summerdale joined the list of municipalities that have prohibited smoking in public places with the approval of an ordinance Monday night.

The Town Council voted unanimously to adopt the ban, which will go into effect Friday, said Mayor David Wilson. The town joins other Baldwin municipalities, including Foley, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Fairhope and Robertsdale, in prohibiting smoking in most public places. Daphne officials also are considering a smoking ban.

“We’re getting a new Waffle House and we’ve been working with them,” Wilson said. “We hope this will be a catalyst for things coming to Summerdale.”

Why would any town cite Waffle House as an example of the type of business they’re trying to attract?

And why not ban the sale of cigarettes in your town if they are so bad for people?
