Elected officials on Monday decided to leave intact the pay schedule they set in 2006 for the next administration.
They had contemplated raising the next mayor’s salary to reflect a full-time work load. Since Gulf Shores started going without a city administrator in October, Mayor G.W. “Billy” Duke III has performed most of the duties that used to be handled by whoever was in that position.
But last week the City Council — eschewing a proposal to continue without an administrator and hand those duties to the mayor — decided to pursue hiring a city administrator. Doing so seemed to put elected officials at ease with the next mayor’s salary, which will be $42,000 a year.
No pay raise for Gulf Shores mayor
$42K is not bad for a part time job.
