Missing woman found OK in Daphne

After more than 10 hours of searching the Lake Forest subdivision in cold, rainy conditions, local authorities and volunteers found 80-year-old Helen Hood this evening, wet and huddled in the woods less than a mile from her daughter’s home.

Hood was cold and shivering, but appeared to be in good condition considering her day-long ordeal, said Daphne police Chief David Carpenter.

Police said Hood suffers from periodic dementia, and apparently wandered on foot from her daughter’s Windwood Circle home in the sprawling neighborhood sometime before 6 a.m. today.

She was found shortly after 5 p.m. by tracking dogs with Atmore’s Fountain Prison K-9 Search Team, he said.
